Proposed Changes to the 8a Regulations
As a socially and economically disadvantaged, small disadvantaged or minority business enterprise, you have an opportunity to apply for and receive your Small Business Administration (SBA) 8(a) or other minority business certifications to include Veteran owned, Women owned, Native American owned and DOT minority certifications.
However, getting certified in these areas requires meeting statutory requirements and presenting proof to the SBA that your business is qualified to enter into one of these programs.
The SBA conducts a detailed analysis that can be difficult to navigate on your own. Additionally, once you are certified in one of these areas, you will need help with regard to marketing your business to the federal government, and to gain the knowledge required as a government contractor.
As the only private company in New Mexico providing 8(a) and minority owned business consulting services, Government Business Technology Consultants (GovBizTech) provides high-level guidance to small businesses seeking these designations. As applicants for these designations, you must overcome complex issues related to net worth requirements, control and affiliation concerns and this is where GovBizTech has the ability to help you.
The SBA is not mandated to find and give contracts to small businesses. After companies are certified, they sometimes find it challenging to secure government contracts. We will assist you and your company in developing a working business plan and also assist in developing substantive business development strategies to ensure that you have the ability to secure contracts and to become a successful government contractor.
